“Visualizing Energy Minimization” Presented by Professor Richard SchwartzDepartment of MathematicsProfessor Schwartz will answer questions about the undergraduate program in math, and will show some computer programs he wrote which involve putting particles in a space and then moving them around so as to minimize their total potential energy. Some of these programs are purely for the sake of illustration and some are dedicated to proving some previously open conjectures about the problem. As Professor Schwartz demonstrates the programs, he will talk about how they work and what they do.
